Does it matter if I'm not very flexible or fit?

Not necessarily. You will gain all the skills, strength, flexibility, balance and co-ordination you need through basic training. Feeling unfit is just another reason to come to class!

Can I pay monthly?

Yes, we have a monthly fee scheme which provides a huge saving for those who train regularly.Click here to see our pricing plans.

Do I need to book in advance?

No. Just turn up and start training at any time. It is advisable to arrive at least 10 minutes early on your first day in order to meet the instructors.

Do I need a uniform?

At first you can simply train in comfortable gym gear – no shoes required. If you decide to train with us you will need to get the official Capoeira Muzenza uniform, as you cannot perform with us or do your grading without this.

What shall I bring to the lesson?

We recommend bringing a water bottle and a towel to class. There are shower facilities at the gym also.

What kind of footwear do I need?

We train in bare feet, but if you want to train in any footwear we would recommend light trainers or martial art shoes as they are light weight and don’t have too much grip.

Do you teach students how to play capoeira music?

Yes, we incorporate music throughout our classes. We also have separate music classes on Wednesday (6:30 - 7:45pm). In these classes you will learn how to play the berimbau, atabaque, pandeiro and agogo, as well as how to sing capoeira songs.

Do I need to be able to speak Portuguese?

No, you don’t. However you will pick up a lot of the language during the training sessions and we also offer Portuguese lessons for 1-2 hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, just before the capoeira class begins.

Do you play capoeira angola or regional?

Capoeira Muzenza is predominantly regional, however we also teach capoeira angola, maculele, samba de roda and other expressions of the capoeira world, which are part of Brazilian culture.
